Committed to a clean, pure earth.
When it comes to Mother Earth, we believe no undertaking is too big, like our biodynamic farm and restoration efforts in the rainforests of Costa Rica. We believe no act is too small, like our move to a 100% solar-powered web site and motion-sensor lighting. Our commitment to Mother Earth drives everything we do: How we grow and source our ingredients, how we formulate, package and ship our products, how we run our office, what we buy, which organizations we support and with whom we partner.

Here's a snapshot of what we're doing, both big and small, to create a clean earth
Around The World
Luna Nueva
Nestled on the edge of the beautiful, pristine Children\'s Rain Forest in Costa Rica, Luna Nueva is New Chapter's version of paradise. Led by the tireless efforts and vision of Tom Newmark, President and CEO of New Chapter, our 74-acre organic ginger farm is a world model for sustainability. Biodynamic and Demeter-certified, it is truly a thing of purity and beauty, and an excellent example of our eco-commitment in action. We invite you to learn more about Luna Nueva, check out our Luna Nueva video or view our gallery of photos.
Children's Eternal Rainforest
We are actively involved in The Children's Eternal Rainforest, a protected, 54,000-acre private reserve located in the Tilaran mountain range in northwestern Costa Rica. Thanks to the support of New Chapter, the Monteverde Conservation League and others, children from 44 different nations have helped the Children's Eternal Rainforest become the largest private reserve in Central America. We will continue to purchase as much rainforest land as we can to preserve not only the environment, but all of the precious animal and plant species that inhabit it.
Sacred Seeds
Sacred Seeds, or Semillas Sagradas as it is called in Costa Rica, is a seed sanctuary for endangered medicinal herbs. New Chapter works with the indigenous communities and Costa Rican ethnobotanists to maintain and grow this very unique sanctuary. Our hope is that, through the protection of these sacred seeds, some of the world's most important medicinal herbs will survive and thrive. And all those who rely on their medicinal power will continue to benefit from the incredible nourishment and healing they provide.

- Most of our marketing materials are printed on paper that is 100% PCW, 100% PCF, FSC Certified and Ancient Forest Friendly manufactured using Bio Gas energy.
- We compost almost all of our returned or discarded supplements.
- We work to minimize solid waste.
In Our Products
- From day one, New Chapter has brought the most sustainable products to the marketplace, both in how the herbs are delivered as well as how they are grown.
- Unlike many supplement makers, we never use any toxic chemicals or solvents to extract the nutrients from their source.
- We use organic ingredients as often as possible.
- We support growers who share our commitment to organics, a clean earth and sustainable business practices.
- Our shipping boxes are printed with vegetable oil-based ink, and our product labels are printed using water-based inks.
At Our Office
We are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact. Nowhere is the belief that small things matter more evident than at our Brattleboro, Vermont headquarters. Some of the things we do:
- We work to recycle all paper, glass, acceptable plastic, CDs, DVDs and printer toner cartridges. We use environmentally friendly office supplies when available, and purchase used office furniture.
- We pledge to use paper & tableware that is made from recyclable and/or compostable materials – even our picnic tables and benches are made from recycled milk jugs.
- We use high efficiency bulbs and motion-sensor lighting.
- All cleaning products used in our production facility are environmentally friendly.
- Our new addition was built using environmentally friendly building materials.
- We buy energy-saving computer monitors, seek out homes for our old monitors at local schools, shelters and non-profits, and run newchapter.com entirely off of solar power.
- Our sales staff has eliminated 75% of order entry paperwork by switching to electronic handheld ordering devices.
