Brattleboro, VT, September 22, 2003—Based in Brattleboro, Vermont and Costa Rica, New Chapter, Inc. is driving innovation within the natural foods industry through exceptional standards of organic purity, herbal extraction without harmful chemicals and scrupulous research at major scientific institutions. Luna Nueva, New Chapter’s organic ginger and turmeric farm located in Costa Rica near the Children’s Rainforest and Arenal volcano, has been lauded as a world model for biodiversity.
Company principals Paul Schulick and Tom Newmark have co-authored a number of groundbreaking books that address latest research as well as the time-tested efficacy of specific organic herbal compounds and whole food supplements—Beyond Aspirin: Nature’s Answer to Arthritis, Cancer & Alzheimer’s Disease (Hohm Press); Ginger: Common Spice and Wonder Drug (Hohm Press); and The Life Bridge: The Way to Longevity with Probiotic Nutrients (Herbal Free Press).
Research on one of New Chapter’s products, Zyflamend, was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal, in a Reuters health story and on CNN’s Larry King Live. New Chapter, Inc., aggressively encourages research on its many product lines and supports other companies in the industry to do the same. Here are a few recent studies on New Chapter products:
Chemotherapy Fatigue Research and Treatment – New Chapter’s developed the CTF protocol for testing patients undergoing chemotherapy for recurrent ovarian cancer. Findings from renowned gynecologic oncologist and Tucson researcher/clinician Earl Surwit, MD, et al, was presented at Dr. James Gordon’s Complementary Cancer Care Conference April 11-13 in Washington, DC. Thirty-one patients had significantly less fatigue after using the CTF protocol, which incorporates a regimen of turmeric-based herbal antioxidants and supplements including Zyflamend. This is a promising human intervention study with powerful implications for all cancer patients faced with the rigors of chemotherapy treatment.
Prostate Cancer Research - Aaron Katz, M.D., Director of the Center for Holistic Urology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, led a team of researchers in testing the effectiveness of New Chapter’s herbal COX-2 inhibitor Zyflamend against prostate cancer. Prostate cancer cells treated in vitro with Zyflamend showed reduced inflammation; had a slower rate of proliferation; and induced apoptosis, or cellular suicide. Animal trials now underway and human trials are slated to start in Q4 2003 or Q1 2004. Also, a study at the Cleveland Clinic independently confirmed the lab results from Columbia-Presbyterian’s study.
