Bone & Joint Health . . .As Nature Intended

Bone Health is an important health issue in the United States. Every year, 2 million new fractures occur; 300,000 people are hospitalized; and 19 billion dollars in direct healthcare costs are spent as a result of bones that have lost density and strength.

Bone density, which is a reflection of mineral content, peaks at age 30. After that, it slowly declines at a rate 0.5-1% per year...in both sexes. This means that contrary to popular belief, bone strength is a concern for men and women alike. In fact, nearly one third of all hip fractures occur in men. The annual rate of loss does spike to 2-3% in women for 3-15 years following menopause, but by age 65-70, they are losing bone at the same rate as men.

Besides age and sex, other factors that can influence Bone Mass Density are smoking, alcohol, level of physical activity, and, of course, nutrition.
